Samsung Seek Review - May 29, 2010 ![]()
Pros: The Samsung Seek has a very nice design for everyone in mind. The phone is very sturdy and compact it’s a cute little phone. It fits nice in the palm of your hand. I really liked the QWERTY keyboard personally. The keys were big enough to to fit my fingers and they didn’t stick or making annoying “click! click! CLICK!” sounds. Cons: The Seek does not have EV-DO, so you will find that surfing the Web can be rather slow and irriating with the HTML browser. The camera and photo quality, you will see isn’t all that great. think that the thing that bothered me the most is the fact that the speakerphone quality can sound a bit muffled. When we think of smartphones, often big fancy expensive phones come to mind. But there isn’t just these phones you see there are others, midrange phones as well and hey take it from me this phone is one of the top end of the midrange phones. A litte confused? Don’t worry I’ll break it down for you. Well the samsung Seek is a phone that is quite similar design and features as Samsung Exclaim. By the looks of it, the Samsung Seek seeks to deliver some fresh looks through different colors and nice patterns on its back. In addition to keeping the QWERTY keyboard for those numerous texts, the Seek also retains the same modest screen size of 2.6 inches with QVGA resolution. When we first see the box, we see that the Samsung Seek comes in is very eco-friendly package; everything is made from recyclable material and the paper comes from sustainable forests. Well you will find that the phone comes with all the basics you will need – the battery, AC phone charger, and Getting Started/Basics guides. The Seek is very small and compact. It fits nicely in the hand and feels solid and comfortable. The phone measures 4.12” x 2.08” x .58” and weighs 3.85 ounces. This little guy is measuring 2.6 inches diagonally for the screen. On the left you will see the volume rocker button and microSD card slot. To the right, there is the lock/power button, charging port, and dedicated camera key. At the top of the phone there you will find the 3.5 mm audio jack along with the lanyard port on the corner of the device. The front panel contains only the screen and three keys – back, home, and a phone function key. The screen is of course a resistive touchscreen. When you slide the QWERTY keyboard open you will see it is smooth and locks solidly and directly into place. Despite it’s rather small size, you will see the colorful display with 262,000 colors and 240×320 pixel resolution. You will be able to adjust the backlight time, the brightness, and the display’s touch sensitivity. There isn’t a Home button or a Main Menu, rather it just breaks it down to the home screen into four tabs – Favs, Main, Fun, and Web. Each of your menu options is divided between these four categories. In order to get to phone functions or your contacts, you push the phone button. This takes you to another “home screen” that also has four tabs – Favorite Contacts, Contacts, Recent, and Dialer. This may be a little difficult in the beginning but you will get the hang of it. The Seek has a 1.3 megapixel camera with no autofocus, zoom, or flash. There are some pretty awesome shooting modes though, including some interesting mosaic shot presets. This device has a 1000 mAh battery and will give you about a work day’s worth of battery depending on what you use and what not. The Seek comes with a music player as well as pre-installed individual apps for Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook, which is pretty cool. You gotta love this having these amazing social networking phones! As for the web browser? Well let’s just say it is a disappointment. When I opened to Cellphonetrek.com, it took about a good five minutes to open this. I see this as a major problem for someone who will be using web browser on a daily basis. The screen is rather small, so the fonts on the screen are even smaller. And what about the zooming feature you may ask? Well that did nothing to make it better. And the QWERTY keyboard? I wouldn’t recommended this for all you men who have those sausage fingers, once again, small phone equals what? Smaller keyboard, say it with me s-m-a-l-l-e-r k-e-y-b-o-a-r-d. Well the keys weren’t too small or too scrunched together, but when my co-workers and friends went to test this, we could see it was clear as to who this phone will be targeted for. Well my over all thoughts about the Samsung Seek is that it is a small, cute, girly phone that has a great QWERTY key board – that is if you have the hands for it – , and it is definitely a social networking phone with the tiny exception of the slowness of the web browser, but if you can look past that you will see that this phone is actually pretty fantastic. The Samsung Seek retails for $29.99 after a mail-in rebate and a new 2-year agreement. It is available in Cool Blue, Scarlet Red, and Fantasy Pink.
