Samsung Gravity 3 Review - June 9, 2010 ![]()
Pros: The battery life lasted really long on the Samsung Gravity 3. I loved how the keyboard is easy to open and the keys are perfectly designed for fast messaging. T Social Buzz was personally my favorite, it’s a great way to connect with everyone with such easy access. Cons: I think that the Gravity 3 deffinitely had some reception issues. When you made calls you can see that the call qualities weren’t excellent, but they weren’t that bad. I didn’t like the non-standard headphone jack, it was annoying and bothered me a lot. The Gravity 3 turns heads. You will notice that it has a nice black frame that looks almost identical to the Gravity 2, except it is much thinner. With 4.6 inches long by 2.11 inches wide by 0.6 inch thick, and weighs 4.34 ounces, it is perfect size for the messaging person on-the-go. It may look a bit bulky for those smartphone users, but in reality, this phone will fit perfectly in almost any pair of shorts or jeans you have for this baby. It is light but sturdy, you won’t have to worry about this phone being pulled apart in your backpack. A full slide out QWERTY keyboard is perfection made for those who are in the constant of messaging, email, texting, and updating those statuses on Facebook and Myspace or leave out the cute little tweets. This keyboard is a benefit, keys are right size, round instead of square, and perfectly spaced. On the left side of the spine, you will find a button just decicated to opening the screen to the camera. You wil also find a Micro-USB charging port on the left and on the opitsite side you will find the volume control. The screen on the Gravity 3′s screen is barely larger than the Gravity 2, just barely. The screen supports about 262 thousand colors and a QVGA 240×320 pixel resolution. You may adjust the brightness and the backlight time, also with the font size, color, and typeface, and the display background color. The Samsung Gravity is definitely readable indoors or in shadow, but when our tests came to direct sunlight, we weren’t happy with what we say but it wasn’t the worst. The talk and end buttons remain the same and clear to find, however, the new design makes the keys easier to press than before.
One of the main features of this device is the ‘Social Buzz’ Java application, which is fully integrated in the Gravity 3, and allows users the ability to update and follow updates on their various social networks, having separate tabs for Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace, as well as a tab that blends the 3 together so that you may see updates from all three. This baby can save up to 1,000 contacts with each an entry for four phone numbers, phone e-mail addresses, three IM usernames, an address, a birthday, URL, an anniversay date, and notes. The Gravity 3 also allows there to be seventy two ring tones, a calling group, or a photo ID per contact. Messaging on the phone is made convenient with the slide-out Full-QWERTY keyboard. The 2-Megapixel camera is mediocre to say the best, and video capture on this phone isn’t all too much to talk about either. You’ll get decent enough photos with the 2.0 megapixel camera, which captures shots in four resolutions (1,600×1,200, 1,280×960, 640×480, and 320×240). There’s a night mode, five white balance presets, three metering modes (Matrix, Center-weighted, and Spot), and five color effects. The self-timer has three countdown intervals and three shutter chimes, plus a silent mode. In addition to Single and Continuous photo-taking modes is Panorama, which automatically stitches together photos as you pan from left to right; Smile shot, which takes your photo as soon as it detects a smile; and Mosaic, which fills in each of four quadrants with a different image. The media player hasn’t grown much either since the last model. In theory, you can send MP3s via text message, e-mail, Exchange e-mail, or Bluetooth, though in some instances your file may prove too large. You can also save MP3s as ringtones, alarms, text messaging tone, with certain contacts, or as a calendar reminder. If you aren’t a big fan of the Gravity 3′s default look, you can personalize it by switching out the wallpaper, screensavers, and alert tones. Gamers will find a handful of demos like Guitar Hero Mobile and The Sims 3 in the Media library, but you’ll need to buy them from the T-Mobile Web store to keep playing past the demo.
This phone was made for the multimedia world of today with a full sliding QWERTY keyboard makes texting, email, and chatting on IM much quicker and easier for anyone. The 2.0MP camera/camcorder with zoom definitely captured everyones favorite memories with multiple capture modes. Social Buss connects you to all your friends and keeps you updated with all of your favorite social networking sites to one place. Intergrated GPS provides support for location-based services and will help you get almost anywhere. Browse the HTML web and download new MP3 ringtones till your hearts content. The Gravity 3′s 3G speeds proved be strong and worthy of this phone. The battery has a rated life of six hours talk time and 16.7 days standby time. The Samsung Gravity 3 over all was exactly what we expected it to be and more. ![]() ![]() Tommy takes the latest Samsung phone for the T-Mobile network out of its box and shows of the included accessories, and gives his first impressions of the phones and possible pros and cons.
