Thanks to the applications using Flurry for analytics reporting, they can reliably and specifically detect and count devices in the market due to the amount of applications downloaded that are embedded with Flurry. The results are not exactly what one would expect, but the statistics seem to look like a solid leap forward for the Android OS. It simply wasn't the phone we had expected to set the precedent. The basis of comparison is 74 days, which is the amount of time it took the iPhone to reach 1 million units sold. The most advanced Android-based device on the market today is the Nexus One and it was projected to surpass the iPhone, but instead it has come in at a rather disappointing 0.135 million. This number can likely be attributed to the online only sales, high price, and the fact that it's initial release was on one of the smaller carriers. The big winner though is the Motorola Droid which actually surpassed iPhone sales on the 74 day benchmark with 1.05 million units sold though it's early November release could be a large factor in it's success due to the holiday season which neither the Nexus nor iPhone did.
