Even though Nokia has recently adopted Maemo 5 as its new flagship OS, Symbian still plans to make headlines and stay aggressive by releasing the source code for download. As for the base code, SDKs, and PDKs, they will all be available with the Eclipse license. By making Symbian 3rd Edition free for download, developers and handset manufacturers will take interest into the open source platform. While Nokia is touting Maemo 5, the Finnish manufacturer has stated that it will not be dropping Symbian as an OS partner. Hopefully we can see an app store for the OS, because it seems that Symbian's biggest problem at the moment seems to be software support. More info after the jump!
