Samsung has signed a brand new deal with the cell phone chip manufacturer Qualcomm. The contract is to last over the next 15 years and started with a down payment of 1.3 billion dollars, chump change for the number two handset maker of the world. The deal is to include for QUALCOMM to allow Samsung rights to 3
rd and 4
th gen wireless technology, also Samsung will pay out royalties to Qualcomm but percentages were not released as of late. Qualcomm will also receive, besides a lot of cash and running royalties, the use of Samsung’s 57 patents. In a press conference held by Samsung about the current contract, Samsung stated that the current deal is much better than the last but would not disclose why. Both companies seem to be making out favorably to this deal as South Korea, where Samsung is based out of, is a huge market for Qualcomm with 90% of phones having QUALCOMM technology inside of them.
