MediaTek, the world's number 2 provider of Cell Phone Chips for smart phones and other phones, shipped out 350 million units in 2009. Earlier today, announced in Taipei, the company said it aims at shipping 28% more chips than it did last year, being driven by the uprising market in feature-rich cell phones such as the smart phones that we see today. Taiwan's biggest chip designer, MediaTek said it would sell chips with fatter margins and software already installed, in order for companies such as Motorola to be able to cut back on production time. Before these annoucements, analysts predicted that Mediatek's 2010 sales to boost by 14%, to $4.1 billion USD. This year, Mediatek says they're projecting 450 million chips being shipped, up by 100 Million from 2009. [Reuters]
