Happening in cell phone news today, Virgin Mobile USA released an official statement today concerning the Helio brand. In the statement Virgin announced that the Helio brand will be terminated, and will be done after May 25, 2010.
As a recap, Helio was purchased by Virgin Mobile USA in June 2008. They spent over $700 million on the deal, and was ready to shut the doors for good. But after the purchase, Virgin assumed that Helio's postpaid services would serve as a great option for Virgin customers, and would give them other services than just prepaid. After a few months of trying to work in the new services, Virgin figured out that Helio's postpaid services were not a good fit for their successful business model.
Now the question is what will happen to Helio's postpaid accounts, and if they would be transferred over to Sprint right away. In a word from Sprint, No customer will be automatically migrated to Sprint's postpaid service. However, Sprint has created a special offer for our customers. The customers who have a postpaid plan will be given $50 toward any purchase of a Sprint handset with a two year agreement with postpaid plan. The Postpaid customers moving from Virgin to Sprint, will receive a $150 off any handset as part of Sprint's standing new customer offer. Activation fees are waived. [Via MobileCrunch]
