Want to get directions to the closest Starbucks, look up someone up in your iPhone’s phone book, or settle a trivial bar bet without typing into your handset? Starting Friday on Apple’s iTunes store, Google will have a new application to help you out. They have added a highly developed voice recognition technology to their search software for the Apple iPhone. Just voice your question and the sound will be converted to a digital file that is sent to their servers where the data is interpreted and passed to the search engine. This method of communication between men and machine has been one of the ultimate goals of artificial intelligence researchers. Yahoo and Microsoft currently have similar software in place, however if rumors are true not as refined. The Technology is not perfect as it is one of the most difficult algorithms to develop however, voice recognition will always improve over time and google appears to have a jump on the tech. It is good to see cutting edge technology like voice recognition finding its way into the mobile device sector.
