Now available on the app store is AT&T’s U-Verse Mobile 2.0. Quite a nifty little application to be honest. This application caters to all of those on AT&T’s U-Verse TV network. The application allows subscribers to manage and update DVR schedules away from your TV, make a favorite channel list, and coolest of all (to those on U399 and U450 packages) to download a selection of TV shows straight to their phone, WiFi only for right now. While AT&T likes to tout that they are currently the only cable provider allowing downloads, Dish makes it fully capable with the SlingBox. BlackBerry Torch users be on the look out for an app similar for OS 6.0. No word yet on Android or WebOS, sorry guys.

AT&T announced on Wednesday that it’s finally complete with its WiFi hotzone of Chicago. AT&T has said that the hotzone is currently active in Wrigleyville, a neighborhood that surrounds Wrigley Field with multiple restaurants and shops. The hotzone even provides coverage for the whole stadium. This launch has been after a spark of numerous other AT&T hotzones, such as NYC’s Time Square, downtown Charlotte, N.C. This hotzone applies to anyone with a smartphone and WiFi capability to hopefully reduce traffic in heavily used 3G areas.

So it’s about that time of year when companies start to releasing their second quarter earning reports. As we have seen recently, some companies have done very well for themselves (cough Google cough) while others not so much. In 2010 T-Mobile served a a span of 33.6 million customers, during the second quarter the telecoms company lost 93,000 customers. While that doesn’t sound too heavy of a toll, you are probably forgetting that the company had lost a total of 77,000 in the first quarter as well. Making a total loss of 170,000 customers. While it might not seem like that much, it’s still not good. The company went on to report a $4.77 billion revenue for the quarter, up from the $4.63 from the previous quarter. Total revenue came to 5.36 billion. The contract churn stayed at a consistant 2.2 rate from the previous quarter.

Clearwire has recently announced that it plans on bringing WiMAX 4G to the iPhone. Using the Clear iSpot, you can pair up to eight of your favorite Apple devices. These devices include the iPod Touch, iPad, and most notably the iPhone (including the 4). The device which is typically priced at $99.99 with a monthly plan, can be purchased today for $29.99 with a pay as you go plan. You can recieve unlimited data usage and 4G speed all for $25/mo. Not that bad of a price if you ask me.

China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. will soon be offering the Apple iPhone with WiFi enabled. Originally WiFi had been disabled for various Chinese government regulations, which in turn has made the device far less attractive to consumers. Hopefully by offering the phone with WiFi will boost Unicom’s slow start off to sales caused by grey-market iPhones (iPhones imported through other countries). China Unicom has also confirmed that is currently in talks with Apple to hopefully be releasing both the iPad and iPhone 4.

I thought it was safe to assume that each class of the Galaxy S, most importantly the individual names given to each handset (Vibrant, Captivate, and Epic 4G) were owned by each T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint. That however, seems to not be the case. So when we first heard that the Galaxy S variant heading to Rogers was in fact the Captivate, with no rebranding or different ID, we were shocked. Unfortunately as of right now there is no available release date or pricing information, but Rogers promises that “more details will be available in the coming weeks,” so you will just have to hold out until then. Our best bet is an late August launch. We’ll keep our ears peeled.

Engadget is reporting that Sony Ericsson Vivaz website has now gone official and is currently live. The phone is due out for AT&T and sports quad-band GSM as well as UMTS/HSPA, Bluetooth 2.1, 360 x 640 resolution on a TFT touch-screen, an 8.1 megapixel camera with 720p video capability, AGPS, and a microSD expansion slot. While the picture above leads you to think this an android powered device, it’s actually powered by Symbian OS. The dimensions of the device are 4.2 x 2.0 x 0.5 inches, with the weight coming in at 3.4 ounces. The Vivaz comes in a multitude of colors, including Galaxy Blue, Cosmic Black, Moon Silver, and Venus Ruby. The website also notes that the phone comes with a skimpy 75MB of internal memory. Many seemed to think that the Nexus One had its days numbered when Google announced that they would no longer keep the device in production and ultimately no longer for sale. It seems that is not entirely the case forever and the phone that is really getting axed is the Google Ion — now the predecessor to the Nexus One. Today Google announces that the Nexus One is now it’s new official developer phone. The developer model is completely unchanged from the current one on the market. However it is mentioned that the phone has “no root access” and that fastboot isn’t enabled. This may cause problems in the future for those looking to unlock their Nexus with the bootloader. Hopefully not. Google has noted that the device ships with 2.1 but will receive 2.2 once powered on.

Android has been on a world conquest as of recently, you can obviously tell by their Q2 U.S. sales report. As if that was not enough, Google CEO Eric Schmidt felt like he should devilish on a couple more stastics. The most notable of them all? His claim that the Google is activating up to 200,00 Android handsets daily. Exactly double from the 100,000 in may, and up 40,000 from June’s 160,000. Many may ask if Google’s venture into the mobile operating system business was worth it, seeing as Google makes no profit from OS sales. Schmidt went on to say “Trust me that [search business] revenue is large enough to pay for all of the Android activities and a whole bunch more.”

Co-CEO of RIM, Mike Lazaridis, has been known not to hold his tongue when it comes to speaking his mind. Although I don’t believe he’s ever really spoken out as directly when he was phrased with the topic of countries banning BlackBerrys. As of these past two weeks, two countries have been added to the list, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia. The Wall Street Journal described the interview as a “fiery”. Lazaridis was quotes saying “this is about the Internet,” and that “everything on the Internet is encrypted. This not a BlackBerry-only issue,” then continued on to say “we’re going to continue to work with them to make sure they understand the reality of the Internet,” and furthermore explaining “a lot of these people don’t have Ph.Ds, and they don’t have a degree in computer science.” He however reassured that the issue “will get resolved if there is a chance for rational discussion.”

If you remember or not, we’ve seen this phone before. Of course that doesn’t mean we aren’t curious as how it ended up on Craigslist. So in case you forget, the purposed HTC Paradise, is a perfect match with model PC70110 on the FCC. The device popped in the FCC sometime back in April with AT&T bands. Whoever purchased the Paradise acquired it as an “AT&T sample” through Craigslist. He knew what he was getting apparently, because he somehow managed to get ahold of the long forgotten HTC Fiesta. Not having heard about the phone in over a year we figured the device was in the recycle bin already, but maybe that’s not the case. You can check out the picture of the Paradise on the link below. It’s nice to see that AT&T still has aspirations of keeping Android on its network.

JailbreakMe, arguably the easiest jailbreak method of all time, has brought jailbreaking to the forefront of the public. You no longer have to be even remotely tech savvy to have your iPhone 4 on another carrier. How is it done? Using an exploit within PDF font. However, once the issue was known it presented a series security threat. For those who aren’t intending to Jailbreak their device, apple is already on the fix. An Apple spokeswoman went on to tell CNET. “We’re aware of the reported issue, we have already developed a fix and it will be available to customers in an upcoming software update,” No eta on when the update should be available, but until then make sure you know what PDFs you’re opening.

It seems Research in Motion might have gotten themselves a bit confused with their product line up and launch dates, because as of right now it appears that an unforeseen BlackBerry Curve 9300 has popped up on Rogers’ website, and it’s available at this very moment. The device comes with a cost of $79.99 canadian dollars, with the agreement of a 3 year contract. The candy bar device packs quad-band GSM and HSDPA frequencies 850/1900/210, GPS, a 2.4-inch display putting up 320 x 240 pixel resolution, microSD expansion and an included 2GB microSD card included, a 2 megapixel camera, speedy 802.11n WiFi, and 256MB of RAM. Unfortunately the device will come without the new praised BlackBerry OS 6, but hopefully we’ll see an upgrade? Maybe?

The iPad has become a very popular device lately and has gotten many excellent reviews on it! Many people have been waiting to see if Apple will come out with a second iPad. I believe that one will come out sometime in the near future. The new iPad has been expected to have a camera with zoom and flash! There has been rumors that you will be able to hold video conferencing videos, but then that would mean Apple would need to have a front facing camera. Many new phones that have been coming out lately have had to cameras which makes it easy to make video calls on applications such as Skype or AIM. With FaceTime video calling you’ll be able to connect with people all over the world. This will most likely be downloaded on the the new iPad. Right now there has been no release dates set out for this device. The only thing people have been talking about for the new iPad is that it might get cameras. In Apples documents about this device it talks about a camera being added but it has not been officially announced by Apple. We’ll have to wait and see what Apple does!

The MyTouch 3G phone from T-Mobile will be getting an OTA Android update tomorrow! Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G has recently just gotten the new Android 2.2 update, but don’t get your hopes up for the MyTouch 3G phone to get it anytime soon. The Android update will give the phone better battery performance. Which most likely means it will have a longer battery life or will use up its energy in better ways. The update will not be sent to every single MyTouch 3G at the same time. It will probably be sent out to thousands of people a day starting August 4th. There has not been many problems with this phone and the upgrade was not made to fix any specific problems for the phone. The phone has a plain design to it. The QWERTY keyboard on the phone is great to text on. The only complaint is about hard the buttons are. The new OTA Android update that comes out tomorrow should improve the overall performance of the phone!

There’s a lot of chit chat about the iPhone’s new “custom glass” that has been quoted to be as tough as sapphire crystal with 30 times the hardness of plastic. That’s all great and peachy, but how strong is the glass really? After viiewing the video you’ll see the iPhone holds its own for the first couple of runs, but just like any phone, the screen will eventually break. Check the link for the full on iPhone 4 destruction.

If you keep up with the news, I’m sure you’ve already seen tons of leaked photos of BlackBerry’s new Bold 9800. Though what you haven’t seen is the new 6.0 OS WebKit browser. That’s right, no you haven’t. TheCellularGuru snapped off some shots while the device was powered on. It’s currently known however the browser will indeed multitouch as well as tabbed browsing. It appears new tabs can be added through the “+” sign. Not too shabby RIM!

Following the announcement of Android build Froyo, HTC has reassured current and future customers that all of the devices sold in 2010 will indeed be upgradable to the highly anticipated 2.2 release. All upgrades can expect to be made sometime within 2010 as well. The first two phones on the list were the already released HTC DROID Incredible as well as the Desire. HTC hinted that they are also working with “hotly anticipated new phones,” which sounds a lot like the Evo 4G. A full list of supported devices can be expected to appear in the near future!

The complete combining of both internet and television is always a sweet topic to touch on. Many have their own networks set up at home, but each network has its flaws. Google plans on changing that all with Google TV. It hopes to be the first Internet / TV hybrid that will not have any compromises to be made. It’s all based on a box created by intel and logitech, and powered by Google. All you will need is Wi-Fi, and an HDMI cable — a keyboard is included. The system utilizes the internet with friendly sites like youtube, and online video sites. Link after the jump.

The CEO of Sony didn’t plan to hold any punches back when getting his chance to speak at Google’s I/O confrence. When Google head Eric Schmidt had called up the CEO to speak on Google TV, the CEO went on to note that the Xperia X10 is currently the best selling handset in the japanese market. To quote: “when you beat Apple, you’re dominating — it’s the new definition.”. What are your thoughts?

You don’t need to be in the know, to know that as of recently Apple has been dumping out iPads like crazy. Though news hit today that according to analyst Mike Abramsky with RBC Capital Markets, Apple is moving near 200,000 iPads next to the 110,000 Macs, weekly. Of course nothing comes close to the iPhone, which still carries on to 246,000 per week. After reading such material, i have to take a grain of salt that these are just estimates and the i7 core change will boost sales.

As if there weren’t enough indication Palm is up for sale. It seems that RadioShack, one of the first few retailers to house the devices, have announced that they will no longer be carrying the phones in stock. It is known that RadioShack currently has a reseller’s agreement with Sprint for both online and in-store sale of the devices. As of today however, the devices are unable to found on Sprint’s website and in-store. Scott Sloat was quoted saying, “This is in line with RadioShack’s normal product planning process — there is a designated amount of space in stores for handsets and they work to keep the line up of devices as current as possible.”

When you think about it, this is an Apple exec’s worst nightmare. A company that rarely lets out any information at all concerning future products, has seemed to drop the ball as possible iPhone 4G rumors are confirmed. There’s been a lot of suspicion and skepticism over the last 48 hours over if this in fact the real 4th generation iPhone, expected for a possible summer release . According to Gizmodo, whom seems to be in current ownership of the device, that the iPhone was found in a camouflaged case in a Bar somewhere in Redwood City, California. Makes sense, right? Not that far from Cupertino. The case made the phone appear as if it were an iPhone 3Gs, but was specifically designed for the 4G as it specifically had holes the proper new adjustments.

It appears that Apple has underestimated the popularity that the iPad and in turn doing so, they’ve delayed the International release until May. Originally Cupertino was holding on to a release slated for “late April” but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. This doesn’t come to much surprise after Apple touted it’s 500,00 tablets sold within the first week in the US alone. Set your calenders for May 10th however, which is when more details will spill out.

The good folks over at Engadget have been playing around with the new Microsoft Kin and they noticed one thing — that the reported microSD slot was missing and nowhere to be found on the device. What the heck Microsoft? I better not here anymore iPhone jokes until we get an answer. Hopefully in the next coming days we’ll see a response back!

It seems that many eager Apple fans will finally be receiving their wishes this summer, as multi-tasking for the iPad, iPod, and iPhone come to life. There had been many rumors swirling throughout the internet as to what would exactly be unveiled last Thursday! Apple’s Scott Forstall went on to explain how Apple implemented multitasking without changing the hardware of the device. He was quoted saying

It seems that everyday we seem to be learning more and more about the mysterious Windows Phone 7 operating system. It’s not hard to figure out either, seeing as Microsoft is as large of a company as they are. During TechEd Middle East, Microsoft employee Eric Rudder spoke about cross platform applications between the phone, the computer, and most interestingly, the Xbox 360. The game can be played using a keyboard, the device’s accelerometer, or an Xbox 360 game pad. When the source appeared on the screen, we were quick to notice that %90 of the code in visual studio was shared code. That should really spark the interest of developers out there. All in all, this is some really interesting stuff. We’ve got to hand it to Microsoft though for really coming through in the past couple of months with some impressive advancements. Keep up the good work!

The Nexus one is currently one of the most popular and powerful Android devices on the market today. That being said, it’s about time the flaws in the device start to arrise from the public. Google plays well with their “Don’t Be Evil” motto with a heart-warming ad that will be ran during tonight’s Super Bowl Game. The ad can be found on Google’s “Search Stories” YouTube page. The ad was originally uploaded in November according to the page. A source claims tomorrow night, an ad titled “Parisian Love” will air during the third quarter Sunday night. On Twitter, Google’s Eric Schmidt said he was very excited and couldn’t wait to see the commercial tomorrow. That and something about “hell freezing over”, so there’s another reason the folks at home might want to tune in. Either way, we’re excited! Video on the main page!

Even though Nokia has recently adopted Maemo 5 as its new flagship OS, Symbian still plans to make headlines and stay aggressive by releasing the source code for download. As for the base code, SDKs, and PDKs, they will all be available with the Eclipse license. By making Symbian 3rd Edition free for download, developers and handset manufacturers will take interest into the open source platform. While Nokia is touting Maemo 5, the Finnish manufacturer has stated that it will not be dropping Symbian as an OS partner. Hopefully we can see an app store for the OS, because it seems that Symbian’s biggest problem at the moment seems to be software support. More info after the jump!

The HTC Incredible hopes to set high standards with such a name, but we’re not sure if it lives up to the hype. This device was rumored to be in the making sometime last December, but today the device has officially been spotted in the wild. The device appears to be set on Verizon’s network bands. The good folks over at Pocketnow have seemed to capture a few details along with some leaked photos and video. The Incredible offers nothing too advanced, Android 2.1 accompanied by Sense UI, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 256MB of RAM, and Duel LED Flash with a camera. The device seems to tout a 3.5 inch screen, possibly AMOLED. Check out the link for shaky video!

Today in cell phone news, a analyst firm call Flurry Inc, is reporting that Google sold around 80,000 of the smartphone Nexus One, a Android powered device, and the first attempt of Google to sell a product branded by them. There could be a few reason for this very low number for the first month, the first reason being how Google is selling the product. Instead of selling it directly through a weireless provider, They have actually made a web page www.google.com/phone to sell the product. Phones that were sold directly through a provider like the Motorola Droid, sold 525,000 units during its first month of sale. The iPhone sold more than 600,000 units during it’s debut. It will be interesting if this number will pick up, and if Google takes another approach to selling and marketing the Nexus One.

In cell phone news, not even a week after Google updates their smartphone the Nexus One with a multitouch update, they also release an updated version of Google Maps available for the Motorola Droid that supports some multitouch functions. The new version of Maps enables a pinch to zoom function, it was no secret that the Android OS 2.0 version had in place support for this kind of stuff, it was all just a matter of time. It will be interesting to see if other device will gain some multitouch support, or how far Google is willing to go with these updates to their OS. As of right now the new version for Google Maps, the 3.4, is now available via a software update in the Market right now. We will be watching this carefully and bring you more info as it come available.

A plethora of reports have recently flooded the internets that Microsoft will be unveiling the user interface of Windows Mobile 7 sometime during Mobile World Congress this month. Within the last 48 hours a new offset of rumors have hit the airwaves, going into detail what the launch will and will not contain. The trusty PPCGeek forum has been home to some “truly amazing information” concerning what will be called Windows Phone 7. Makes sense, Windows Phone plus Windows 7? The UI will contain an almost exact replica of a Zune HD’s interface (under the codename METRO). Some even go as far as to say the interface as “very clean,” “alive,” and “soulful.” More info after the jump!

This is the second installment of Google’s Nexus one video series. Google likes to keep their name in cell phone news, apparently. The first video focused on mostly the call and sound quality, and the overall design of the device. In Google’s latest segment, botch HTC project manager Tomasz Hasinki and Google Android software engineer Romain Guy go through the Nexus One’s capacitive OLED screen as well as the 3D framework. The videos are pretty short, but I’m sure this won’t be the last one. Check out the video up on the top main page!

There seems to be more reason for kids to have cell phones these days than some might want. Yesterday AT&T announced that its locating FamilyMap application for the iPhone has been upgraded with a handful of new features. The most notable of the changes would be the ability to locate a family member using your mobile device, where as previously a computer was required. Other features include POIs, device labeling, map panning, and landmarks. The service itself will run you at $10 per month for a pair of lines, and a family package of up to five lines for $15 a month.

Currently there are a few Dell handsets roaming throughout international markets, more specifically China and Brazil. The Android powered device was manufactured by a company under the name of Qisda and has been on sale globally for some time now. It seems that the folks at Engdaget have confirmed that the same device has recently just passed through the FCC under Qisda’s name. If you look at the picture, you’ll see an official FCC filling for the Qisda M01M. If you notice also, there is a shot of the Mini 5 with practically the same name. FCC files the handset as a “mobile internet device” that will carry support for WiFi as well as full HSPA (AT&T, Rogers, Bell, and Telus) as well as edge. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a stateside release soon?

The video found on the homepage of Sony Ericsson’s new Aspen device is spoken in a foreign language, but it doesn’t mean you mean you can’t ooooohhh and ahhhhhh at the device. We’ve got to say, the design on the device is really sleek and holds its own against a world full of Windows Mobile brandished Samsung, LG, and HTC devices. In the video you’ll also get to see some of Windows Mobile 6.5.3’s new menus and features as well. The video is up on the top page!

While Cell Phone Trek cannot confirm the legitamacy of the slide seen above, considering T-Mobile’s current plan for the United States in 2010, it seems plausible. The slide pictured was released through the infamous PPCGeeks forum. The slide depicts seven new devices scheduled for a Q1 2010 release. What I first noticed out of all seven of the devices, was what appeared to be an Android device by the name of “CLIQ XT”. The slide also includes launch dates for each of the respective devices. The XT for instance, is scheduled for a release date of March 10th. The two most other eye-grabbing devices are the Nokia Nuron, which appears to be a economical touchscreen device with 3G access (most likely capactivite, frown face) and the mighty impressive HTC HD2. More after the jump!

This isn’t the first time hands have been laid on this device, but this will be the first time the general public has come face to face with it. Daily Mobile broke news with a few snaps they have taken which are claimed to be Samsung’s S5620 Monte. The Phone, which appears to be powered by the TouchWiz UI will feature a 3” Display, 3.5mm headphone jack, and HSDPA. Upon reading the FCC inquiries, we’ve learned that the device also comes equipped with WiFi, and lacks 850 and 1900MHz 3G support. No love for North America it seems, but maybe we’ll see a similar device in the future, possibly sometime during Mobile World Congress.

It’s always fun trying to port an operating system to a device it shouldn’t really be running on, but hey, that’s never has stopped the most intrigued. A man thought today to make cell phone news, that man, Toni Nikkanen of Finland has recently become the first successful person to port Apple’s OS X 10.3 (Panther) to the Nokia N900. This is all achieved through a PowerPC emulator by the name of PearPC. If you’re into 90 minute boot sequence and snail-speed cursing, then hit the link for a how-to. Video up top!

Google wants to capture some well-deserved attention of its own apparently. Branching off from a traditional CES press unveiling, Google has announced an event will be held on 5th of January in Mountain View, California. With the amount of chatter going on about the nexus one, it will most likely be the announcement of the said device. Though as it stands right now most of our Cell Phone Trek crew will be on our way to the wonderful state of Nevada. More info after the jump
