HTC Droid Incredible Review - April 29, 2010 ![]()
Pros: The HTC Droid Incredible is insanely fast. Not only thanks for Verizon’s 3G network, but to the Incredible itself. This beauty comes fully equipped with Android 2.1. and you will see that this amazing 8 megapixel camera is beyond clear. The photos come out crystal clear. You will also notice that The Droid Incredible comes with 8GB of internal memory. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
Cons: I don’t like that you can’t use voice and data at the same time on the Droid Incredible. It just doesn’t make any sense considering that many phones already have both working together. It sounds like HTC is a little behind in that area. The front of the HTC Droid Incredible has taken on many of the characteristics we’ve grown to expect from pure touch devices and even it’s 4 dedicated buttons; Home, Menu, Back, and Zoom are not dedicated buttons, but rather integrated into the touch screen. Below the 4 buttons on lies the optical tracker which can be used to navigate your device and is by no means an eyesore. For having a rather large touchscreen, the Incredible comes in weighing a mere 4.6oz which is fairly lightweight. The massive 3.7″ display, and the entire front of the device I might add, is shiny and rather aesthetically pleasing, but I’d keep it out of the sunlight or it’s unviewable. It’s microphone is located on the bottom of the device, and sadly it does not have noise-canceling so there is no second microphone. The power/unlock button is located on the top of the device next to the 3.5mm headset jack. You can find the volume rocker and microUSB port located on the left spine and surprisingly nothing on the right spine. Now onto the rear of the device which has yielded an interesting design and the most important features, besides the screen – of course! The back of the Incredible is located with components, housing the 8-megapixel camera, both LED flashes next to it, and the speaker just to the right of the camera. What is most interesting about the back of the device though is the grooves that allow a user to set the phone down and not muffle the speaker by keeping the speaker slightly elevated which I found to be a fantastic integration. As with any HTC device, you can find the HTC logo on the back, this time in chrome and the loved “with Google” on the bottom of the back. All in all the Incredible has a rather minimalist design, but you can be grateful for that because all of the power and features inside are almost overwhelming. I can’t even begin to describe how much fun I had getting to know the Incredible and learning to use it, but I’ll do my absolute best for all of you out there interesting in picking one of these up. Those of you that have used an Android device will pick up the new features rather quickly and much of it should feel very similar to what you’ve seen in older models, but for those of you new to the smartphone world don’t feel intimidated as the interface has been designed for simplicity and ease of use. One of it’s new features, Leap, allows you to pinch the homescreen and brings up all 7 homescreens to allow quick and easy navigation through your screens. The insanely fast 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 512 MB ROM/RAM allow you to multitask seamlessly so you can be playing Pandora while browsing without any slip-ups in performance. The keyboard, both landscape and portrait, is very responsive, easy to use, and corrects your errors quickly and accurately. The Camera/Video is very easy to use and produces some very impressive quality videos and pictures, the only downside is that there is no dedicated camera button so you have to open it manually and shoot with the optical joystick. I really have no complaints about using the Incredible as it is rather adaptive. You can use this to play music while you use it’s GPS/Navigation features, or to simply make calls and texts, the possibilities are limitless and it can take care of whatever you need and more. The HTC Droid Incredible is a seriously impressive piece of hardware that is definitely targeted to technology enthusiasts and it delivers results. I can’t recommend this for the emergency phone you purchase your child or for someone that needs a durable device for their physical activities, but if you want an “Incredible” experience with a mobile phone then look no further. I could list it’s massive list of specifications again, but we suspect they’ve made their impact already and you’re well aware of all the power under the hood of this beast of a smartphone. The HTC Incredible is the kind of device that promotes strangers to inquire,”What phone is THAT?!” I simply can’t recommend the HTC Droid Incredible enough, I actually bought one after reviewing it. Verizon offers a return program so don’t let the price set you back without trying it. ![]() ![]() Travis unboxes the HTC Incredible for the Verizon network.
