Google's trademark application for the Nexus One has been denied

Google can't seem to catch a break with their Nexus One. The less than expected sales on their Nexus One (pretty sure we've covered that the online-only sales weren't the wisest marketing strategy), their filtering issues with China, the onslaught from Apple against their HTC Android partner (which many see as an indirect attack on Google), and on top of all of that today in cell phone news their patent for the Nexus One has been denied due to a 'likelihood of confusion'. Their getting shot down is due to a Portland, Oregon company called Integra Telecom Inc. previous holding a trademark on 'Nexus' which was registered in 2008. Integra says they haven't heard anything from Google regarding the situation and Integra's spokesman John Nee commented,'We hope we can work together and achieve our respective business goals.' The issue for the two companies is that Integra has around $60 million in annual revenue associated with their Nexus brand. Google's spokeswoman said:'We continue to claim rights to the Nexus One trademark in the United States, and plan to respond to the office action from the U.S. Patent Trademark Office.' I'm certain we haven't heard the end of this and will continue to update as we hear more. [MarketWatch]
