AT&T Gives 3G Network a Boost

AT&T is going to give it's 3G network a little more juice. Today AT&T announced plans to upgrade its existing 3G network effectively doubling the data transfer speeds. Dubbed HSPA 7.2, the network upgrade will first show up in Miami, Los Angeles, Charlotte, Houston and Dallas by the end of the year. As it stands now AT&T hopes to have about 30 markets online with HSPA 7.2 by the end of 2010 and all but 10% of the entire 3G network upgraded by 2011s end. AT&T is not stopping there but is also giving hardware facelifts in the form of backhauling connections at the tower giving it faster data connections to the network and the net adequate to support the new HSPA 7.2 Technology. It is said that HSPA 7.2 will be even faster than LTE Technology. Right now those with the iPhone 3GS and the HTC Fuze will be able to reap the benefits of HSPA 7.2 if you are in one of the 6 cities previously mentioned but dont frett, AT&T hopes to have six HSPA 7.2 compatible smartphones available by the end of the year.
