With all industry moving towards greener pastures, and the environment on the for front of every ones mind, At&t will move toward more eco-friendly packaging for their phones and phone accessories. They will also put restrictions on the packaging requirements for cellphone makers that they currently do business with. Their goal is to minimize the surplus of plastic and paper that tends to wind up in the packaging of a device that you purchase. Requirements that would try to use more recycled and recyclable materials will now be put into place. With this new venture At&t expects to save 200 tons of excess materials by the end of 2010. This is kinda mind boggling considering we were wasting 200 tons of materials each year on packaging for mobile devices. This is one way to know the cell phone industry has hit main street and has been there for quit some time. I hope to see an industry wide movement to greener ways in the cell phone industry. It will be interesting if At&t can spark that movement. [Via Engadget]
