Anti-Theft Patent on iPhone

Currently Apple is working on a technology patent that would detect unauthorized iPhone usage and remotely wipe sensitive data to Apple devices. The Cupertino company filed a patent with the Trademark Office in February and has created a technology that will be able to identify an unauthorized user and will be able to shut down an iPhone or an iPad. 'A photograph of the current user can be taken, a recording of the current user's voice can be recorded, the heartbeat of the current user can be recorded, or any combination of the above,' the patent states. 'The photograph, recording, or heartbeat can be compared, respectively, to a photograph, recording, or heartbeat of authorized users of the electronic device to determine whether they match.' Important and personal information; such as credit card numbers, bank accounts, passwords can all be erased fromt he electronic device if unauthorized usage is detected. This technology can also determine if the device is hacked, jail broken, unlocked, or if the SIM card has simply been removed. There are many people who would love the idea of protecting their devices from unwanted trespassers, but other question the the situation of hacking and jail breaking a phone. The United States courts have said that jail breaking is in fact legal and does not violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Europe is in the same boat and has a strong mandate against anti-competitive protections on hardware.
